La Guaira This coastal mountain range separates the city of Caracas from the port of La Guaira on the central coast. In this mountain range, and running along the length of the city, is the El Ávila National Park with its imposing mountains and cloud forest. At the top of the park is a cable car that takes passengers down to Caracas and up to the Hotel Humboldt. The park also contains small traditional towns of flower growers and fruit and vegetable farmers.
Our journey starts as we leave the port in 4x4 vehicles to take the coastal road to the town of Macuto. From there we begin our ascent up the mountain, passing through the varied landscapes until we reach the town of Galipán, where we make a brief stop to sample some traditional juice drinks and fruit. From there we continue on to the cable car station and the Humboldt Hotel, located at 2,105 metres above sea level, where we can spend some free time walking to the summit and enjoying the spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea to the north and the city of Caracas to the south. We then take a cable car ride down to the cosmopolitan city of Caracas. From there we will take a sightseeing tour of the city, noting the stark contrasts of its architecture, before travelling back along the highway to the port of La Guaira.
